Uses of Cronivir Tablet


Cronivir 0.5mg in adult and children < 2yrs, and its mainly used for treatment of long lasting Hepatitis B infection. The infection caused by Hepatitis B virus in liver. This infection will damage the liver and cause liver failure or liver cancer. The reducing of hepatitis B virus quantity in body is carried out by Cronivir tablet. Cronivir, after liver transplantation of the replication of HBV is prevented.  Cronivir is indicated for HIV the selected patient resistance to lamivudine and Emtricitabine, hence its not prescribed for both HIV-HBV patient without fully stopping Cronivir drug.  

Side effects of Cronivir Tablet


Cronivir 0.5mg  causes mild to moderate side effects : Weakness, Tiredness, Head pain, lethargy, Nausea & Vomiting, low heartbeat , Light Headedness, pain in stomach, Muscle ache, Cold Legs, weight loss , Yellow  colour change in Skin And Urine, Lightish colour change in  Bowel Movements, Dyspnea, Dizziness. Major Adverse reaction Involves  Lactic Acidosis.

How to use Cronivir Tablet

Entecavir prescribed for chronic hepatitis C virus infection and dose is 0.5mg in compensated liver disease in adults and adolescents 16 years of age and older.

Cronivir  given one tablet of 0.5mg once daily.

Cronivir  0.5mg administrated on an empty stomach for atleast 2hrs after a meal or before the next meal.

Pediatric dose :

2 to 15 years for therapy new patients.

10 to 11 kg: 0.15 mg orally once a day
>11 to 14 kg: 0.2 mg orally once a day

>14 to 17 kg: 0.25 mg orally once a day
>17 to 20 kg: 0.3 mg orally once a day
>20 to 23 kg: 0.35 mg orally once a day
> 23 to 26 kg: 0.4 mg orally once a day
> 26 to 30 kg: 0.45 mg orally once a day
> 30 kg: 0.5 mg orally once a day.

OVERDOSAGE: If patients had single entecavir  doses of 40mg or double dose of 20mg/day till 14days has no evidence of increase or any adverse effect. If overdose occurs then provide immediately supportive and symptomatic measurements such as vitals signs of toxicity of medicine

How to Cronivir Tablet works:


Entacavir is belongs to the classification of antiviral drug and an  nucleoside analogue show action against hepatitis B virus polymerase  is effectively phosphorylated to the active triphosphate form, which require an intracellular half life of 15 hours. Cronivir  tablet combination with natural substances such as deoxyguanosine triphosphate functionally prevents all three activities of HBV reverse transcriptase:             

  1. Base priming
  2. Ergonomic messenger RNA produce negative strand of reverse transcription
  3. Synthesis of positive strand of HBV DNA.

Cronivir 0.5mg reduces the quantity of hepatitis virus in the blood  and  decrease the multiply  and infect new cells by these three activities.

Absorption: Cronivir has peak plasma concentration between 0.5 and 1.5 hours and bioavailability is 100% relative to the oral solution.   Effect of food: while on empty stomach is more effective for tablet absorption compared to with food.

Distribution: binding to human plasma protein of Cronivir is 13 %

Metabolism: small amount of phase II metabolites (glucuronide and sulfate conjugates) were observed

Elimination: Cronivir is widely excreted by the kidney with urinary unchanged drug recovery ranging from 62% to 73%.

Terminal elimination half life of Cronivir 24 hours.

Cronivir 0.5mg co administration other drugs( lamivudine, adefovir, dipivoxil, or  tenofovir) will result no drug interaction and affect the renal function, hence patient should be monitored regularily.

The patient who discontinue the anti hepatitis treatment (Cronivir) should check the hepatic function follow up closely then restart of anti viral drug may be warned.

Alcohol

Alcohol interaction with Cronivir 0.5mg is not known. Please consult your doctor for any inconveniency

Pregnancy

Pregnancy category C: Cronivir 0.5mg may not be safe to use during pregnancy. In studies of animal reproduction has shown adverse effects on the fetus, in human studies has no adequate and well controlled data but probable benefits may permit to use the drug in pregnant women against possible risks

Lactation

While breastfeeding, taking into account of serious of the Cronivir 0.5mg drug to the mother an decision should be made to discontinue the drug or discontinue breastfeeding. Excreted into human milk is unknown and in animal milk its excreted. 

Driving

Cronivir 0.5mg cause side effects of dizzy, sleepy, tried or reduce alertness. If this you feel then avoid driving until you feeling well.


Kidney

Patient with kidney problem use the Cronivir 0.5mg with caution. Dosage adjustment is required in renal impairment. Please consult the doctor for further clarifications.

Liver

  Patient with hepatic impairment using cronivir 0.5mg have no dosage adjustment is Necessary.            



Missed Dosage

  If you missed a dose take it as soon as possible, if time reach for next dose, then skip missed dose and continue regular schedule. Do not take extra or double dose. Please consult with doctor.
