Uses of Heptos Tablet

Heptos is interfere with an interferon medication such as (peginterferon alfa-2a [Pegasys] or peginterferon alpha-2b [PEG-Intron]) for the treatment of hepatitis C in people which has been not treated with an interferon before. Heptos is in a class of antiviral medications called nucleoside analogues. It acts by blocking the virus which leads to hepatitis C from spreading inside the body. Ribavirin and another medication cures hepatitis C infections is an unknown treatment and inhibits liver damage that may be caused by hepatitis C, or prevents the spreadness of hepatitis C virus to other people.

Side effects of Heptos Tablet

 Heptos may cause some side effects. Inform your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe occurs:

  •  stomach discomfort

  • heartburn
  • lack of appetite

  • changes in ability to taste food

How to use Heptos Tablet


In adult,capsules, oral solution

< 66 kg → 400 mg orally  two times a day (BD)
66 - 80 kg → 400 mg orally in the morning and 600 mg in the evening
81 - 105 kg → 600 mg orally two times daily
> 105 kg → 600 mg orally in the morning and 800 mg in the evening.

Interferon α-New patient with genotype1 for 48 weeks.

Interferon α – new patient with genotype 2 and 3 for 24 weeks.

Retherapy with PEGASYS α- 2b/ ribavirin of before treatment failures for 48 weeks regaedless of Hepatitis C virus genotype.

HEPTOS combination with interferon α – 2b

75kg or less →400mg orally in morning and 600mg in evening

>75kg → 600mg oral route two times a day

HEPTOS with peg interferon α – 2a combination.

Genotypes 1 and 4 in patients ≤ 75 kg → 1000 mg/day orally in 2 divided doses - 48 weeks
Genotypes 1 and 4 in patients → 1200 mg/day orally in 2 divided doses for - 48 weeks
Genotypes 2 and 3 → 800 mg/day orally in 2 divided doses  - 24 weeks
Genotypes 5 and 6 → Insufficient data to make a recommendation
In patients coinfected with HIV → 800 mg/day orally in 2 divided doses  - 48 weeks, neglectful of HCV genotype.

Pediatric dose:


≥ 3yrs patient→ HEPTOS with combination peg interferon alpha-2b/ interferon alfa-2b – 15mg/kg (dose divided into 2) orally per day.

According to weight of HEPTOS dose

< 47 kg →15 mg/kg (oral solution) orally per day (2 divided doses)
47 to 59 kg: 400 mg orally twice a day (BD)
60 to 73 kg → 400 mg orally in the morning and 600 mg in the evening
> 73 kg → 600 mg orally twice a day (BD).

Duration for genotype 1 is 48 weeks and for 2 & 3 is 24 weeks.


≥ 5yrs patient HEPTOS combination with peg interferon alfa – 2a

23 - 33 kg → 200 mg orally twice a day (bd)
34 - 46 kg →200 mg orally in the morning and 400 mg in the evening
47 - 59 kg → 400 mg orally twice a day (bd)
60 - 74 kg → 400 mg orally in the morning and 600 mg in the evening
≥75 kg → 600 mg orally twice a day (bd).

Duration of genotype 2 & 3 is 24 weeks ; for other genotype is 48 weeks.


In adult dose : safe and efficacy is not established , not approved by FDA

Pediatric dose:  HEPTOS  Starting Solution of 20mg/ml administration with continuous aerosol for 12 to 18 hours per day for 3 – 7 days

How to Heptos Tablet works:

HEPTOS mechanism which according to its antiviral efficacy in the clinic is not completely understood. In tissue culture Ribavirin has direct antiviral activity against many RNA viruses.  Several  RNA viruses type of genomes the  Ribavirin will rise the mutation frequency and in biochemical reaction ribavirin triphosphate prevents Hepatitis C Virus polymerase.

Absorption: Rapid absorptions, Peak plasma concentration is 2 hours and oral bioavailability is 64%

Distribution: no plasma protein binding

Metabolism: Heptos is metabolized by two pathway phosphorylated via deribosylation and amide hydrolysis to form triazole carboxylic acid metabolite.

Elimination: renally excreted through urine 61% and feces 12% and 17% unchanged form.

Half life; 120 to 170 hours for oral dose of 1200mg.

  1. Consult your doctor, If you had any allgergy with ribavirin and by its ingredients or any other medication.

  2. If you are taking didanosine, inform your doctor because doctor may feasibly stop Heptos while using that drug.

Special Warnings of Heptos Tablets


While taking Heptos tablet, do not take alcohol beverages. Alcohol injuries make liver disease worse condition. Please consult with your doctor.


Category X: In Studies of animals or human beings have shown  there is probality of fetal risk based on human experience or both, and the risk of the use of the drug in pregnant women clearly exceed any possible benefit. Heptos is contraindicated in pregnancy women or plan to become pregnant.


Excretion of Heptos in human milk has no data available. Due to possible for severe adverse reactions in nursing infants, has conclusion It should be discontinue breast feeding or the drug.


Using of Heptos tablet will make you drowsy, dizzy or drive alertness, avoid driving or machine operate until you feeling well.


Heptos dose should not be modified in patients with renal dysfunction, If any serious side effects, Heptos should be stop until severity is reduce. Please consult with doctor for more details.
